This morning Fernando and I walked back to the river to retrieve some things that I needed in my room from the suitcases. The suitcases have been stored there overnight since we got into the area too late to deliver them to the library yesterday. Then he needed to go over to the clinic and to the school so I tagged along. We stopped at the school for a minute and then went on to the clinic to drop off the computer that I had brought for them. A laptop, don’t worry. After that we went back to the school where we got to judge a drawing contest. All the kids were drawing birds and we were judging on use of color and the message of the jungle and composition and a few other things. It was very difficult to judge because there were so many good drawings. At the end the woman running the contest gave me the picture that we had judged as the best one for a certain age group. That’s the toucan picture above, with lots of background material including a little picture of a pink dolphin.
The principal of the school really gets the community involved in things, they are celebrating their 32nd anniversary and she’s pretty much running the weeklong celebration. She’s a very nice young woman.
We got back to the lodge with a few minutes to spare before lunch and left quickly after lunch to go to the library. The Library hasn’t changed too much, it was still very nice and clean and orderly with books on display. We unpacked four of my suitcases, unfortunately I forgot the key for number five so will do that tomorrow Here’s a picture of the four suitcases full of the materials you all helped me bring.
That’s great! I see Conapac has a wonderful web site now: (http://www.conapac.org/ ) and the pictures of birds were on there too- maybe from another time? Your photo is front page on the library tab (http://www.conapac.org/library.html – such a great photo of you Jane!
It looks like the books you brought are very much appreciated and I have no doubts that they will help change lives.
This is fantastic!
